a 3 Day Oil Landscape Workshop
with Pittsburgh artist Phil Salvato
“Capturing the Elusive Light”

Cost $150
The workshop will consist of a sketching day at a local area vista. If the consensus and weather has it to continue to paint the next day outside, we will. Otherwise, we will paint at the MAA Gallery, located at Mountaineer Mall on Green Bag Road in Morgantown, WV. This workshop will be in water mixable oil or regular oil. Artist preference. Phil works in oil through out the class, but all media are welcome.
Phil is regarded as Pittsburgh’s premier landscape and portrait painter. He has worked in the field of art for 45 years. Salvato has been published in local, national and international articles and books on the subject of fine art and has traveled throughout

Portrait Painting Workshop

The workshop is third in a series to show a student a method in painting portraits, the workshop will be in opaque after completion of prior sketches in charcoal and oil wash.
Materials: yellow ochre, raw sienna, venation red, raw umber, ivory black, white, alkyd painting medium, mineral spirits, and some of your other colors, those who wish to work in (oil water) paint may do so, brushes, rags, etc.
Canvas 20”x 24”, paint thinner, etc.

Portrait Painting in Oil Wash

The oil wash is the second in a three part series of portrait painting, the oil wash is a process in laying in the foundation before one proceeds in heavy oils.
Materials: oil painting medium alkyd base, brushes, turpentine or mineral spirits, linseed oil, cotton cloth, one or two colors, ivory black, two or three 20x24 canvases
Time: July 14 Mon. & 15 Tues. 10:00 am until 3:00 pm

Students from the first charcoal session will be in the same seat for the oil wash, the model will be the same, it will be a continuation of the same pose.
Charcoal Portrait Workshop

The workshop will be designed to develop preliminary drawings before one proceeds to paint. Vine charcoal is an excellent medium to help find the answers to these illusive questions
